What's in Your Mailbox?

Today in mine I got 2 items I found amusing...

1. A white envelope. From MORE magazine. The magazine for women 40+ years old. I had been selected for a free trial! haha. seriously. I freaked when I turned 31 a couple of months ago, and now I'm getting mail from a magazine geared for women 10 years older than me. super.

2. A PBKids catalog. Yep. According to the MORE magazine peeps, I am too old to have kids! But PBK has faith in me! haha!

Ahhhh, random, I know. But I found it amusing and a bit ironic that those things arrived on the same day. :) But, I am happy to share that not a single tear was shed during my leisurely browse through the new PBK spring catalog. I eyed the cuteness but didn't get teary eyed. I didn't rip it to shreds. I didn't curse PBK for sending it to me. I didn't throw it in the fire. I was fine. YAY!!! Now THAT'S progress! :)

i don't really have much 'new' to say, but i feel like i should say something. :) things are going about the same. zach is really ready to start our appointments and at least go in for the ivf consult. i must say, it's neat to see him to eager and excited. and positive. it helps persuade me for sure! however i was just telling some friends/teachers at school yesterday that my class of 5-6 year old boys (i have 14 boys and 6 girls in my class this year!) is wearing me out and that i don't know how moms do it. you know, teach all day and manage and deal with other people's kids all day long, and then go home to your own. i worry that i will be too tired, both mentally and physically, and that i won't have any patience by the time i get home. they say not to worry.

the meds are definitely working and i'm very grateful for that. i still haven't heard anything from my primary care doc about the bloodwork and all from my physical on jan 18, but i'm sure it's coming soon and i'm praying everything is just fine. we had a great time at dinner with friends the other night. had a yummy passion fruit margarita and yummy mexican. at one point during dinner i looked around the table at all of us laughing and having a great time and thought "i'm so glad i can enjoy this again...i've missed it". so yay for that!

i always come around and get out of my 'funk' and into a great mood in the spring. i don't think it's so much like that seasonal depression i see commercials for, i just think it's the whole, you know, coldness and stuff! i like green grass, flowers, birds & butterflies, sunshine. it uplifts me. makes me feel positive. i think that's, deep down, why i want to wait until the spring to start up the appts again. either way, i'm definitely looking forward to it! you'll notice that i'm reading a good summer beach read right now! maybe that'll help!

so how about you? do the winter months make you feel kinda 'blah'? looking forward to spring any teacher moms out there? how do you deal!?! :)

Cold Weather, TV, and Good Books!

For Georgia, it has been unusually cold at the start of the new year. I mean, 13 degrees when I leave the house for work? No way. I love visiting cold places, but don't think I could make it living there! (though I DO love coats, scarves, and hats!)

Anyway, with the snow, ice & low temps this weekend we did a lot of hanging out at home. Which was nice, especially coming off of the holidays. We have cooked, watched movies, and caught up on tv shows (Fringe and 30 Rock). Does anyone else think 30 Rock isn't as funny as it used to be? I still love it though!

I've also been reading. I'm supposed to be reading "The Lovely Bones" for the book club that I'm in but I have gotten sidetracked and picked up "The Fixer Upper" by Mary Kay Andrews. She is a local gal so it's fun to read her books as they take place in towns and places I'm familiar with. I have gotten hooked on this book. It's about a girl whose job as a lawyer in DC suddenly falls out from under her due to a political scandal and she needs a place to think about her next life move. Her dad had recently inherited an old mansion in Georgia that he wants to clean up and flip. In comes the main character to the rescue. Of course she gets there and it's way worse than she imagined (think 'Money Pit') and she meets a cute, single guy her first day there. :) Since I love decorating and my husband and I went through a remodel a few years ago, the story line is super fun to me. I can't wait to read more!

So, anyway, I need to come up with some books to suggest at my next meeting. Anyone read anything good lately??? Please share!

A Teacher's Snow Prayer :)

I received this from a friend and had to share!!! :)

A TEACHER'S PRAYER FOR SNOW

One night as I lay almost sleeping, I heard a voice, softly peeping.

I saw my wife devoutly praying. This is the prayer I heard her saying:



Oh, Lord, let it snow.

Let it drift and let it blow.

In the morning, no real fuss,

Just enough to stop the bus.

Enough to make the County say:

"There will be no school today."

Let the radio report: "Snow's deep!"

And I'll roll over for more sleep.



Then later on, say maybe ten,

I'll turn the radio on again.

Just in time to hear them say:

"It's strange; the snow has gone away!"



And then I'll know, You made it stop,

So I can go to the mall and shop.

Please, Lord, just hear my teacher's plea,

And make it snow for the kids and me!

Amen

First Week of 2010

Well my first week of 2010 was a busy one! It started with a Teacher Workday followed by back to school with 20 excited & hyper kindergartners then my husband's birthday and finally a snow day! Whew!

Monday's Teacher Workday was productive, but cold. The heat was not working in my classroom. So glad we were allowed to wear jeans that day! I was layered well in my jeans, boots, and a sweater.

Tuesday morning was hard! It was SO TOUGH getting up early again (5:30 am). I had been staying up WAY too late during the break! I kept telling myself I needed to get 'back on my work schedule' but I was having too much fun! I had forgotten what it was like to stay up past 10:30. The day was long as my kids were so chatty and full of energy. I don't know how kids do it. So jealous!

Wednesday was Zach's birthday. The big 3-2. I don't know why, but turning 30 did not bother me, but in December when I turned 31 and now that Zach is 32, I suddenly feel like we are old. Not 'old old' but old enough you know? Like we are 'real adults' now or something. We're in our 'early thirties'. What!? Where does the time go...

Thursday was fun at school as we (state of Georgia) spent most of the day tracking the coming winter weather. It worked out great since we were studying weather in Science this week. It was easy to pull up weather reports and 10 day forecasts and stuff on the smart board for the kids to interact with. By 1:30 we got word that the first snowflakes were seen in Atlanta so everyone started getting antsy to go home! I headed out at 3:30 for my 45 minute drive home. Perfect timing. Around 5:00 we could see a steady fall of flakes and it was great! Schools were closing left and right and my friends and I kept texting back and forth to see if we would be out. Finally at 11:50 I got the call that we were out on Friday. YES! (mostly b/c I was nervous about driving before sunrise with the ice and all)

So today, Friday, I have been majorly lazy. I've watched lots of tv, took a nap, and tonight watched "Sunshine Cleaning" on Netflix on-demand. I feel kind of guilty that I wasn't more productive today, but it wasn't safe out on the roads and, well, why not!?
